Ruth E. Veri, 89, of Golden Hill Nursing Home, formerly of Lawrence Manor, died Monday, November 8, 2010 at Jameson Memorial Hospital. She was born June 9, 1921 in Youngstown, OH a daughter of the late Joe and Mary (Howley) Chill. She was married to Lawrence F. Veri, Sr., who died on June 15, 1982. Mrs. Veri retired from Bell Telephone Company as a PBX Operator after 11 years. She was owner and operator with her husband of Veri House of Music on Wilmington Road for over 15 years. Mrs. Veri was a member of St. Camillus Church and the church choir, the Sweet Adeline Club and Primetimers, and she enjoyed playing bingo. Mrs. Veri was also instrumental in getting John F. Kennedy to come to New Castle during his 1962 Presidential Campaign.

She is survived by one son, Lawrence F. Veri, Jr. of Catonsville, MD, three daughters, Alexis J. Davelli of New Castle, Mary Jo Spanilla of Del Ray Beach, FL, and Geraldine Gordon of Hendersonville, NC, five grandchildren, and fourteen great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one brother, James Chill, and two sisters, Helen Klinker, and Ann Dygert.

A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in June 2011 around Mrs. Veri’s birthday at St. Camillus Church. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery. Funeral arrangements are by the William F. & Roger M. DeCarbo Funeral Home, 926 Cunningham Avenue. . In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be sent to the American Diabetes Association or St. Camillus Church.
