John R. Nerti, 85, of 209 E. Madison Ave., New Castle, died Wednesday morning, January 17, 2007 at his home in New Castle, Pennsylvania. He was born July 27, 1921 in West Pittsburg, Pennsylvania a son of Anthony and Katherine (Capatt) Nerti. His parents precede him in death. He married Phyllis A. (Dantonio) Nerti on October 10, 1943, she survives in New Castle. Mr. Nerti worked on the B & O Railroad for 21 years. He also worked for Pinkerton Security as a security guard for many years. He was an Army veteran of World War II and served in Europe. Mr. Nerti served with Co. A 52nd Battalion of the 9th Army Infantry Division and received the Good Conduct Medal, the Victory Medal, American Theater Service Medal and the European and Middle East Theater Service Medal with 1 Bronze Star. Mr. Nerti was a member of the St. Vincent de Paul Parish and loved spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by one son, Anthony J. Nerti, Sr.and his wife, Anita (Copple)Nerti of New Castle, PA, four brothers, Patsy Nerti and Joseph Nerti of West Pittsburg, PA, Phillip Nerti of Wampum, PA, and Victor Nerti of New Castle, PA, three sisters, Betty Miller, Josephine Winter, and Shirley Bessell all of West Pittsburg, PA, two grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by four sisters, Rose Nerti, Mary Nerti, Jennie Stelter, and Tresia Mozzocio and one grandson, Anthony J. Nerti, Jr.
Visitation will be held at the William F. & Roger M. DeCarbo Funeral Home on Friday, January 19, 2007 from 5 pm to 8 pm.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, January 20, 2007 at 10:00 A.M. at St. Lucy Church. Father Kenneth Keene of St. Vincent de Paul Parish will be officiating. A funeral procession will leave the funeral home at 9:30 am. Burial will be in the St. Lucy Cemetery.
