Lester D. Malizia

Lester D. Malizia, 83, of Addis St., New Castle, died Tuesday morning, February 27, 2007 at Golden Hill Nursing Home in New Castle, Pennsylvania. He was born April 5, 1923 in Bessemer, Pennsylvania a son of Donato ‘Tom’ and Elizabeth (Vitti) Malizia. His parents precede him in death. He married Dorothy (Champ) Malizia in 1950, she survives in New Castle. Mr. Malizia was a veteran of the Army during World War II, holding the rank of 1st Sergeant. He received the Good Conduct Medal, American Campaign Medal and World War II Victory Medal for his service. After his Army service he graduated from the University of Pittsburgh with a Bachelor of Science in Accounting. Following graduation, he was a State Auditor in charge of audits for state-aided institutions. He then was owner of the Villanova Inn Restaurant and Bar for 20 years. Following that he became a Safety Inspector for Labor & Industry of the State of Pennsylvania and also the Office Manager and a tax consultant for H.&R. Block in New Castle. Mr. Malizia is an ex-football player at the University of Pittsburgh, was active with Pop Warner Football in New Castle and Little League Baseball. He was a member of the Alpha Phi Delta Fraternity, Fraternal Order of the Eagles, Knights of Columbus, 4th Degree. He is the past President of the P.T.G. of St. Vitus School and past Representative of the P.T.G. to the Pittsburgh Diocese. Mr. Malizia is a member of the St. Vitus Church, a former Eucharistic Minister and past President of the Church Council and Holy Name Society. He was also a member of the American Legion and the Lawrence County Bocci League and the Lawrence County Tavern Association. He was past President of the Tavern Association as well as several area bowling and golf leagues.
Most recently, Mr. Malizia retired as the Executive Director of Riverside Apartments after 22 years.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by, one daughter, Maureen Donaldson of New Castle, PA, two sons, Lester D. Malizia, Jr. of Daytona Beach, FL, and Floyd Malizia and his wife Sherri (Fundoots) Malizia of New Castle, PA, one sister, Adeline Pidro of New Castle, PA and three grandchildren, Brandon Donaldson of Florida and Ashlee Donaldson of New Castle and Gabrielle Malizia of New Castle. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, William Malley and Frank Malizia.

Visitation will be held at the William F. & Roger M. DeCarbo Funeral Home on Thursday, March 1, 2007 from 2 to 4 PM and 7 to9 PM.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, March 2, 2007 at 10:00 A.M. at St. Vitus Church. Father John Petrarulo of St. Vitus Church will be officiating. A funeral procession will leave the funeral home at 9:30 am. The New Castle Area Honor Guard will perform Military Funeral Rites at the Cemetery. Entombment will be in the Resurrection Mausoleum.
