Anthony F. Izzo, 95, formerly of N. Lafayette Street in Mahoningtown, died Thursday, December 21, 2023, at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Boardman, OH. He was born in New Castle on November 29, 1928, a son of the late Sylvester and Bridget (Rasille) Izzo. Mr. Izzo was married to the late Clara D. (DeSimone) Izzo, who died on April 2, 2023. Mr. Izzo was a United States Army Veteran serving during the Korea Era. He was a member of Holy Spirit Parish- St. Vincent de Paul and was very active in the church. He worked for National Steel in the furnace room, retiring after 34 years. Mr. Izzo was a member of the VFW and the American Legion. He was an avid sports fan, and enjoyed hunting, fishing, making crafts and woodworking, vegetable gardening, and wine making, and loved spending Sunday afternoons at the Flea Market. He is survived by four children, David Izzo of Poland, OH, Deacon Mark Izzo and his wife Susan of Canfield, OH, Matthew Izzo of New Castle, and Annette Bonham and her husband Tom of Cranberry Township, four grandchildren, Theresa Stier and her husband Ken, Nolan Bonham and his partner Carrie Byrd, Sean Bonham, Simone Izzo and fiancé Michael McNally, two great-grandchildren, Bryce and Nora, and a number of nieces and nephews, all of whom he loved dearly. In addition to his parents and wife, he was also preceded in death by three brothers, Ben Izzo, Joe Izzo, and John Izzo, and two sisters, Florence D’Ambrosia and Antoinette Paolini. Visitation will be held Wednesday, December 27, 2023, from 10 AM to 12 PM at the William F. & Roger M. DeCarbo Funeral Home, 926 Cunningham Avenue. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday, December 27, 2023, at 1:00 PM at Holy Spirit Parish- St. Mary’s Church. The New Castle Area Honor Guard will perform Military Rites Wednesday, December 27, 2023, at 12:00 PM at the Wiliam F. & Roger M. DeCarbo Funeral Home. A funeral procession will leave the funeral home at 12:30 PM. Burial will be in St. Lucy Cemetery.
