Charles Michael Smail

Charles Michael Smail, 85, of Frew Mill Road, Slippery Rock Township, died Thursday, June 22, 2023 at Jameson Care Center in New Castle. He was born in Ford City, PA on April 26, 1938 a son of the late LaVerne and Catherine (Tiesehinger) Smail. Mr. Smail married Ruth Ann (Richards) Smail on November 23, 1961, they have been married for 61 years. Ruth Ann survives in New Castle. Mr. Smail worked as a welder at Penn Engineering for 24 years and retired from Mercer Force after 10 years. He was a member of Mt. Hermon Presbyterian Church. Mr. Smail was a United States Air Force Veteran, he attended the Air Force Academy, and was a lifetime member of the NRA. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, riding his motorcycle, and traveling to Canada. Mr. Smail enjoyed working out with his hands, and was very mechanical, he built his own house, and helped build his children’s houses.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by one daughter, Barbara J. Morgan and her husband John David of New Castle, four grandchildren, Wayne Smail, Brandy Smail, Brayden Morgan, and Kendyll Morgan, and one brother, Edward Smail of New Kensington.

In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by one son, C. Scott Smail, and three brothers, Nicholas Smail, Robert Smail, and David Smail.

Visitation will be held Monday, June 26, 2023 from 3 PM to 5 PM at the William F. & Roger M. DeCarbo Funeral Home, 926 Cunningham Avenue. Funeral services will be celebrated Monday, June 26, 2023 at 5:00 PM at the William F. DeCarbo Memorial Chapel. Rev. Judy Wilson will officiate. Burial will be in Mr. Hermon Cemetery.
