Evelyn L. Garretson

Evelyn LaVerne Garretson, 92, formerly of Hollow Road, died Thursday, May 2, 2019 at Haven Convalescent Home in New Castle. She was born February 25, 1927 in Johnstown, Pennsylvania a daughter of the late Elza and Rachael (Berkebile) Nycum. She was married to the late Walter E. Garretson who died November 19, 2012. Mrs. Garretson was a telephone operator for Bell Telephone in Johnstown and Ellwood City for a number of years. She was a member of the Red Hat Society and enjoyed traveling and living in Florida for the winter. She also loved spending time with her family, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

She is survived by three children, Ginger L. Stoner and her husband Donald of New Castle, Jay  H. Garretson and his wife Elaine of Warren, OH, and Laura L. Adams and her husband Ron of New Castle, one brother, Mickey Little of Goodyear, AZ, one sister, Rita Zeigler of Stow, OH, ten grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her son, Gary G. Garretson, and her step-mother, Bertha Marie Nycum.

Visitation will be held at the William F. & Roger M. DeCarbo Funeral Home, 926 Cunningham Avenue on Monday, May 6, 2019 from 10 AM to 12 PM.

Funeral services will be held Monday, May 6, 2019 at 12:00 PM at the William F. DeCarbo Memorial Chapel. Pastor Jeff Mackay of Harmony Baptist Church will be officiating.  Burial will be in the Oak Park Cemetery.
