Evelyn Phenola (Taylor) Ward, 89, affectionately known as Ellie, went home to spend eternity with her lord & savior Jesus Christ, on June 16, 2024. Born 9 of 18 children to the late Aubrey & Maggie (Carter) Taylor. She was a graduate of the New Castle Senior High School. On June 16, 1956, she married the love of her life Paul V. Ward and from this union created 5 children.
Ellie lived a very busy and productive life. Along with being a wonderful mother and wife, she worked as a seamstress. She strived to unify and rebuild our community. She loved helping people, being involved and standing up for the people and causes she believed in. She was very kind with an “it’s funny, but I’m not going to laugh-laugh”, but was also aggressive, but not without meaning.
She leaves her treasurable memories to her daughters, Alesia ‘Lisa’ Ward of New Castle, PA and Anita ‘Neet Neet’ Ward of Charlotte, NC, eight grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, two sisters, Thelma ‘Butchie’ Franklin of Roanoke, VA and Jean (Leroy) Shepherd of New Castle, PA, and one brother, Donald ‘Bobo’ Taylor of New Castle, PA.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three sons, David, Paul Jr., and Aubrey Ward, a grandson, Victor Ward, eight sisters, and six brothers.
Visitation will be held Thursday, June 27, 2024, from 6 PM to 8 PM, at St. Luke AME Zion Church, 603 Harbor Street. Visitation will be held Friday, June 28, 2024, from 12 PM to 1 PM, at First Presbyterian Church, 125 N. Jefferson Street. A funeral service will be celebrated at 1:00 PM at First Presbyterian Church. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the William F. & Roger M. DeCarbo Funeral Home, 926 Cunningham Avenue.
