Helen I. Sackin

Helen Ida Sackin, 95, formerly of Hillsville, died Saturday, August 11, 2018 at Avalon Nursing Center in New Castle. She was born October 24, 1922 in Hillsville, a daughter of the late Joseph and Maria (Varacalli) Startari. She was married to the late Marshall Sackin who died October 13, 1961. Mrs. Sackin retired from the cup shop at Shenango China after 20 years. She was a member of Christ the King Parish and the St. Lucy Club, which she was devoted to. Helen enjoyed cooking, crocheting, traveling, and spending time with her friends and family and her dogs, Vegas and Tiny.

She is survived by two sons, Michael J. Sackin and wife Diana of New Castle, and Marshall Sackin, Jr. of Ebensburg, PA, one sister, Margaret Kelty of New Castle, two grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by six sisters, Ann Startari, Clara Gentile, Theressa Nicols, Rose Petrello, Jane Slike, and Virginia Yeropoli.

Visitation will be held at Mary Mother of Hope Church on Tuesday, August 14, 2018 from 10 AM to 11 AM.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday, August 14, 2018 at 11:00 A.M. at Mary Mother of Hope Church. Father James Downs will be officiating.  Burial will be in the St. Lawrence Cemetery in Hillsville. Funeral arrangements are by the William F. & Roger M. DeCarbo Funeral Home, 926 Cunningham Avenue.
