Joseph D. Callahan, Jr.

Joseph Daniel Callahan, Jr., 62, of Carlisle Street, New Castle, died Friday, November 17, 2023 at UPMC Jameson Hospital. He was born in New Castle on April 5, 1961 a son of the late Joseph D. Callahan, Sr. and Marquerit (Collins) Callahan. Mr. Callahan was married to Denise L. (Slovonsky) Callahan on April 24, 1994, they would have been together for fifty years in February. Joseph was a welder at East Railcar, worked in the maintenance department at Lawrence County Housing Authority and was a cook at Edward’s Restaurant. He was a member of the Army National Guard and the Reserves for a number of years. Joseph enjoyed golfing, watching John Wayne movies and was an avid Chicago Bears fan, he also loved spending time with his grandchildren.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by three children, Joseph D. Callahan, III and his wife Lynsey, Jodi D. Callahan, and Jack D. Callahan, all of New Castle, two brothers, Jerry Callahan and Jeff Callahan, two sisters, Pamela Kelley and Cindy Robinson, seven grandchildren, and one great grandson.

He was also preceded in death by one brother, Robert Callahan.

Visitation will be held Monday, November 20, 2023 from 4 PM to 6 PM at the William F. & Roger M. DeCarbo Funeral Home, 926 Cunningham Avenue. A funeral service will be held Monday, November 20, 2023 at 6:00 PM at the William F. DeCarbo Memorial Chapel. Rev. Matthew Bupp will officiate.
