Laura “Mucca” Tomski, 98, a beloved mother, wife, sister, grandmother, aunt, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully in her home on August 30, 2024.
Born on December 2, 1925, in New Castle, Laura was the second of five children to John and Christina DiGiacomo. Growing up during the Depression, she cherished memories of her childhood, surrounded by the children of immigrant families from various countries, sharing a close-knit neighborhood.
Laura graduated from Shenango High School and went on to work at Johnson Bronze and G.C. Murphy. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles “Red” Tomski. Together they had three children; Frank, Marilou and Barbara. Laura was known for her love of gardening, the beach, and singing, as well as hosting big Sunday dinners with macaroni and meatballs, a tradition often shared with extended family. In her later years, Laura found immense joy in caring for her grandchildren and being an important part of their lives.
A devoted member of St. Vitus Church, Laura sang in the church choir alongside her sisters, Catherine and Dolly, for many years. One of the most cherished moments of her life was traveling to Italy with the choir, where they had the honor of singing for Pope John Paul II. The trip also gave her the opportunity to visit the village where her mother was born and reconnect with her Italian relatives.
Laura is survived by her son Frank Tomski, daughter Barb Razzano, son-in-laws Robert Razzano Sr. and William Zaverl, grandchildren Robert, Michael, Ally, Rachael, Kyle, and Aaron, as well as great-grandchildren Giada, Roman, Ariana, and Savannah. She is also survived by her sister Dolly (Lucille) Foley.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by daughter Marilou Zaverl, one granddaughter, Samantha Razzano, brother Frank DiGiacomo, and sisters Catherine Blundo and Sylvia Sirimarco.
Laura's life was a testament to love, family, and faith, and she will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
