Mary Jane Mottle, 102, formerly of N. Liberty Street died Saturday, March 25, 2023 at Jameson Care Center in New Castle. She was born on June 20, 1920 in New Castle, a daughter of the late Andrew and Rosalia (Spotko) Kopatsky. She was married to the late Angelo Mottle who died on June 10, 1976. Mrs. Mottle was a member of Madonna Church, St. Mary’s Mother of Hope, and the churches Hope Club. She attended Maison-Frederic School of Beauty and Culture and the Zegarelli Brothers Beauty School in Pittsburgh. She became a licensed beautician, opening a salon in her home and practiced her profession for over 60 years. Mrs. Mottle was a professional ballroom dancer with numerous local companies. She enjoyed painting, playing bingo, watching the Cowboys on TV, and the color pink. She loved music and singing. She enjoyed sitting in the courtyard with her friends in the sun wearing her straw hat, and she always got a nice dark tan. Mary always had to have a cup of hot green tea with honey and sugar. She always talked about her son and her father, about what a great guy he was and that she was his favorite. She enjoyed her home and her beautiful family and was a surrogate mother to all the little dogs that her son brought home. Mary also loved feeding the little animals that inhabited her yard, and her flowers gardens. Her family will always remember her as a positive and optimistic woman her entire life.
She was survived by three nephews, Richard McCombs, Clyde McCombs, and Andrew McCombs, two nieces, Sharon Griffin and Sandie Miller, five great-nephews and five great-nieces.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by one son, Anthony (Skip) Mottle and one sister, Rose Pitzer, and one great-nephew.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, March 28, 2023 from 12 PM to 1 PM at the William F. & Roger M. DeCarbo Funeral Home, 926 Cunningham Avenue. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday, March 28, 2023 at 1:30 PM at Holy Spirit Parish- St. Mary. A funeral procession will leave the funeral home at 1:00 PM. Father Aaron Kriss will officiate. Burial will be in Madonna Cemetery. We would like to thank the nurses and aids at Jameson Care Center for the wonderful care that they provided Mary through the years.
