Mary G. 'Mae' Newman

Mary G. ‘Mae’ Newman, 91, of Honey Bee Lane in Neshannock Twp., died Saturday, March 9, 2024, at her residence in New Castle. She was born on September 14, 1932, in New Castle, the daughter of the late Patsy and Julia (Santillo) Nero. Mrs. Newman was a member of Holy Spirit Parish- St. Vitus. She worked for Golden Hill Nursing Home, Shenango China, and worked in private homes as a personal caregiver for a number of years. She was a Pittsburgh sports fan and she enjoyed bingo, word puzzles, and dancing. Above all, she loved her family, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

She is survived by two children, Lynette Altman of New Castle, and Thomas H. Newman, Jr., and his wife Christine of Gloucester, VA, three grandchildren, Raelyn Shuler and her husband Nicholas, Randy Altman Jr., and his wife Kayla, and Frank Newman and his wife Jamie, seven great-grandchildren, Nicholas Newman, Kaitlynn Shuler, Ryan Shuler, James Shuler, Anastyn Altman, Alyona Altman, and Ryker Altman, and one brother, Marion ‘Duddy’ Nero of New Castle.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by five brothers, Anthony ‘Dooders’ Nero, Alphonso Nero, Charles Nero, Joseph ‘Pep’ Nero, and Benny ‘Figo’ Nero, and six sisters, Jane Nero, Antoinette Carbone, Margaret Fontana, Ann Vogus, Veronica Nero, and Teresa ‘Mona’ Ludovici.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, March 12, 2024, from 4 PM to 7 PM at the William F. & Roger M. DeCarbo Funeral Home, 926 Cunningham Avenue. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday, March 13, 2024, at 10:00 AM at Holy Spirit Parish-St. Vitus. Funeral procession will leave the funeral home at 9:30 AM. Father Ben Barr will officiate. Burial will be in St. Vitus Cemetery.
