Mary Lou Smiley

Mary Lou Smiley, 96, formerly of Pennsylvania Avenue, died Wednesday, April 10, 2024, at Quality Life Services in New Castle. She was born on December 8, 1927, in New Castle, the daughter of the late Charles A. and Philomena (General) Santillo. Mrs. Smiley was married to the late James ‘Bo’ Smiley, Sr., who died November 18, 1999. Mrs. Smiley worked as a Histologist and Phlebotomist at St. Francis Hospital, retiring after 35 years. She was a member of Holy Spirit Parish- St. Vitus. Mrs. Smiley was a pre-tester at Walmart Vision Center for a number of years. She was an avid bowler, and a member of the New Castle Bowlerettes, an avid Pittsburgh Pirates and Steelers and enjoyed going to her son’s and grandchildren’s sporting events.

She is survived by one son, James ‘Jimbo’ Smiley, Jr., and his wife Judy (Iorio) Smiley of Madison, MS, one daughter in law, Judy (Troggio) Smiley of Chandlar, AZ, three grandchildren, Shaun Smiley Scott, James E. Smiley, III, and Jason Smiley, seven great-grandchildren, and two sisters, Patricia Santillo of Albuquerque, NM, and Lucille Santillo of Austin, TX.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by, one son, Mark Smiley, one grandson, Patrick Smiley, and four sisters, Margaret Lelenko, Angelina Santillo, Tina Esposito, and Shirley Ferrari.

Private services will be celebrated at the William F. & Roger M. DeCarbo Funeral Home, 926 Cunningham Avenue. Burial will be in St. Vitus Cemetery.
