Maryann Mehalic

Maryann (Retort) Mehalic, 62, of N. Croton Avenue, died Saturday, July 1, 2023 at her residence in New Castle. She was born on July 24, 1960 in New Castle a daughter of the late John and Antonette (DeCarbo) Retort. She was a member of Holy Spirit Parish- St. Vitus. Ms. Mehalic worked as a cook at New Castle Area High School for 10 years, and then was a clerk at the PA State Store in Neshannock Township for 5 years. She loved cooking, walking, and above all, spending time with her children and grandchildren.

She is survived by three sons, Larry E. Shaffer, Michael J. Shaffer both of New Castle, and Michael J. Flannery of Hillsville, PA, six grandchildren, and three brothers, John Retort Jr., of Huntersville, NC, Donald Retort of New Castle, and Joseph Retort of Queensbury, NY.

Visitation will be held Thursday, July 6, 2023 from 2 PM to 4 PM at the William F. & Roger M. DeCarbo Funeral Home, 926 Cunningham Avenue. A blessing service will be celebrated Thursday, July 6, 2023 at 4:00 PM at the William F. DeCarbo Memorial Chapel. Burial will be in St. Vitus Cemetery.
