Phyllis R. Runyon

Phyllis R. Runyon, 87, formerly of S. Cedar Street in Mahoningtown, died Friday, January 5, 2024, at her residence in New Castle. She was born on June 29, 1936, in New Castle, the daughter of the late James and Rose (Russo) Mash. She was married to the late Donald E. Runyon, Sr., who died on July 23, 2000. Mrs. Runyon was a police dispatcher for the New Castle Police Department, retiring after 25 years. She was a member of Holy Spirit Parish- St. Vincent de Paul. In her younger days, Phyllis was an avid softball player and bowler, receiving numerous awards. She enjoyed playing cards, bingo, going to the casino, and loved to travel to Las Vegas, and she loved reading a book a day. She was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers and Pittsburgh Pirates fan. Phyllis loved cooking for her family and friends, and her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were her pride and joy.

She is survived by five children, Rose Lynn Padice, Donald E. Runyon, Jr., and his wife Michele, Loretta A. Spielvogel, William J. Runyon and his wife Guadalupe, and Anntoinette ‘Toni Lynn’ Runyon all of New Castle, ten grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren, two sisters, Madeline Rossi and Christine Mash both of New Castle, and a number of nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by one son-in-law, Nicholas J. Padice, Jr., one brother, James Mash, Jr., and one sister, Anita Ponziani.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, January 09, 2024, from 4 PM to 7 PM at the William F. & Roger M. DeCarbo Funeral Home, 926 Cunningham Avenue. A blessing service will be celebrated Wednesday, January 10, 2024, at 10:00 AM at the William F. DeCarbo Memorial Chapel. Burial will be in St. Lucy Cemetery.
