Raymond Fontana, 83, of W. Elizabeth Street, New Castle, died Wednesday, February 14, 2024 at UPMC Montefiore Hospital in Pittsburgh. He was born in New Castle on October 28, 1940 the son of the late Louis and Philomena (Effinite) Fontana. He was married to Arlene M. (Magliery) Fontana on October 6, 1962, she survives in New Castle. They were the first couple married in St. Camillus Church. Mr. Fontana was Union President and worked in the Human Resource Department of Rockwell International working for 28 years until it closed. He then worked for Bush Industries for 11 years and Ohio Security Systems for 5 years. He worked until the day he got sick and was a hard worker till the end. Ray was an Army veteran serving in Germany and a member of the Knights of Columbus 4th Degree, VFW, American Legion, and the Moose Club. He was an avid Penguins fan, enjoyed going to the casino, listening to his son Ray’s band, and spending time with his family.

In addition to his wife he is survived by four children, Louis J. Fontana and wife Roberta of Findlay, OH, Raymond J. Fontana and his wife Janice of New Castle, Ann Marie Ong and her husband Paul of Strongsville, OH, and Mary Jo Fontana of Raleigh, NC, former daughter-in-law, Lori Fontana of Pittsburgh, nine grandchildren, Anthony Fontana and wife Lauren, Brianne Pompeani and husband Brock, Allyson Fontana, Jacklyn Fontana and fiancé Matthew Hucke, Maria Albertino and husband Kevin, Matthew Ong, Elizabeth Ong, Angelina Fontana and Christina Ong, and two great grandchildren, Nora Fontana and Patrick Pompeani.

He was also preceded in death by one son, Thomas John Fontana.

Visitation will be held Sunday, February 18, 2024 from 4 PM to 7 PM at the William F. & Roger M. DeCarbo Funeral Home, 926 Cunningham Avenue. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday, February 19, 2024 at 10:00 AM at St. Camillus Church. Father Joseph McCaffrey will officiate. Father Barry Gearing of St. John Neumann Church in Strongsville, OH will co-celebrate. A funeral procession will leave the funeral home at 9:30 AM. Entombment will be in Parkside Mausoleum. The New Castle Area Honor Guard will perform Military Funeral Rites at the cemetery.
