Rosalie Ann (Maiorano) Hannon, 82, of New Castle, died Wednesday, March 19, 2025, at UPMC Jameson Hospital following a brief illness. Born Oct. 13, 1942, the beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin and friend was born and raised by a large and loving community of family, extended family and friends in the heart of Mahoningtown. She graduated in 1960 from New Castle High School.
Rosalie’s favorite pastime was playing 500 Bid, and she looked forward to her weekly card games with her friends at the First Presbyterian Church and St. Vitus Catholic Church – especially when she won the big $1 pot. She was a long-time employee of Klafter’s and Hallmark; and volunteered at the New Castle Public Library.
She enjoyed traveling to Marietta to visit her grandchildren and watch them play sports, attend school dances or simply sit on the porch reading a book. She loved spending time with friends and family and lit up when laughing and telling stories about growing up in Mahoningtown and New Castle. She was an avid reader, college basketball fan, Game Show Network follower and Facebook Friend who Liked everything from family pictures to funny videos of Italian grandmas.
Rosalie is survived by her three children, Donald (Sharon) Hannon Jr., Andrea (Robert Thibault) Hannon, and Megan (Brad) Bauer; three grandchildren, Theodore, Katherine and Andrew; her sisters, JoAnn DeCarbo and Tomasina Maiorano; her nephews, Roger Michael and William DeCarbo; several cousins, great-nieces and nephews; and life-long friends who were like family to her.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas and Ann (Rainey) Maiorano; and many beloved aunts, uncles, cousins and friends who were all surely awaiting her arrival in heaven with the latest gossip.
Rosalie will be missed at our dinner and card tables but will always be remembered in our hearts. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made in Rosalie’s name to the Friends of the New Castle Public Library or donate a book in her name through the library’s Memorial & Honor Books program.
