Vera J. Hepler, 103, of W. Clen Moore Blvd, died Tuesday, July 23, 2024, at Clen-Moore Place in New Castle. She was born on August 31, 1920, in New Castle, the daughter of the late Charles Herbert and Ethel (Shuler) Teece. Mrs. Hepler always wanted to learn and was eager to work. She started her first job in her teenage years as a clerk for Thrifty Market. After that she went to work for her uncle at Teece Lumberyard, where she worked as an Estimator of Material for houses and garages for over 20 years, she then worked for Dr. Hinkson as a nurse assistant for a few years and ended at Golden Hill Nursing Home working in the front office as a bookkeeper, retiring after 22 years at the age of 77. Mrs. Hepler was a member of Savannah Methodist Church. She was very active and involved in her church by playing the piano and singing in the choir, directing the children’s choir, and bringing her children to Sunday Bible School and Vacation Bible School. She loved to dance, and through dancing she met her second husband, Larry. Above all, she loved her family, she was always there for them, and they were very important to her.
She is survived by two children, Linda J. Simons and her husband Larry, and Larry V. McCullough and his wife Lucy all of New Castle, one son-in-law, Paul Bardash of New Castle, four grandchildren, Brian McCullough, Kelly McCullough, Linda Holland, and Lindsey Simons, five great-grandchildren, Trenton, Kaitlyn, Sierra, Logan, and Noah, and two great great-grandchildren, Lila and Gabriel.
She was also preceded in death by her first husband, Harry McCullough, who died on October 9, 1989, her second husband, Larry F. Hepler, who died on September 27, 2019, one daughter, Bonnie K. Bardash, one granddaughter, Becky Bardash, two brothers, Philip Teece and Fred Teece, and one sister, Marian Stafford.
Visitation will be held Saturday, July 27, 2024, from 11 AM to 12 PM at the William F. & Roger M. DeCarbo Funeral Home, 926 Cunningham Avenue. Funeral services will be celebrated Saturday, July 27, 2024, at 12:00 PM at the William F. DeCarbo Memorial Chapel. Pastor Adam Goswick will officiate. Burial will be in Castle View Memorial Gardens.
