John Willis Abels, 79, of Beckford Street, loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend, was called home by his Heavenly Father on Saturday, September 21, 2013 at Edison Manor Nursing Home, in New Castle. He was born August 7, 1934 in Ravenswood, WV, a son of the late Frank and Lori (Anderson) Abels. He married Sandra (Pagley) Abels on May 24, 1974, she survives in New Castle. Mr. Abels was owner and operator of A&K Unlimited, a demolition contractor of commercial and residential structures in the area for over 50 years. He was an Army veteran of the Korean Era serving stateside. He would accompany President Eisenhower on stateside trips. Mr. Abels was a workoholic and enjoyed fixing broken machines.

He is survived by six children, Tammy Douglas and husband John of Beaver Falls, Amy Paienwosky and husband Irving of Clearwater, FL, John Abels of Beaver Falls, Heather Abels of New Castle, Charnae Gonzalez and husband Orlando of New Castle, and Charles Bielski and wife Ellen of Pulaski, two brothers, Charles Ables of New Galilee and Robert Ables of Wampum, one sister, Elsie, fifteen grandchildren and twenty-one great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by, one daughter, Deborah Kaszer, one infant son, three brothers, Glen, William, and Raymond Abels, and two sisters, Geraldine and Frankie.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, September 25, 2013 from 4 PM to 8 PM at the William F. & Roger M. DeCarbo Funeral Home, 926 Cunningham Avenue.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, September 25, 2013 at 8 PM at the funeral home. Rev. Stobel of Community Evangel Church will officiate. The New Castle Area Honor Guard will perform Military Funeral Rites at the funeral home. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery.
